Ready to start your egg-cellent chicken keeping adventure? We are here for you every step of the way, simply use our handy Beginner’s Checklist below to make sure you have everything you need to keep happy and healthy hens

Essentials to keep happy and healthy chickens

Chicken Coop - The more space the better

Chickens - We recommend 3-5 hens is a great number to start with. Remember to buy them all at the same size so they place nice together.

Drinker - Chickens drink lots of water

Feeder - Something to put the chicken feed in

Chicken Feed - 5kg will last 3-5 chickens approximately a week but dont forget to supplement with table scraps, they will love you for it 

Cracked Corn - to keep the egg yolks nice and tasty

Shellgrit - to keep egg shells hard

Soft Hemp Bedding - to encourage hens to lay those delicious eggs

60L Drum - for feed storage, you want to ensure your feed stays dry, mould free and away from any creepy crawlies

1 x 25L Drum - for corn storage, also want to ensure it stays dry

1 x 25L Drum - for shellgrit storage

Optional but recommended

Mesh Floor - to protect your chickens from predators like foxes, we like to say it's better to be safe then sorry. Simply put some grass clippings ontop of the mesh. Your chickens will be entertained for hours and it adds a nice layer over the mesh for the chickens. Win-win.

Chicken Fencing - for keeping your chickens contained in certain areas, like away from your veggie garden, flower beds or even your patio - they're social so if you're entertaining, they'll invite themselves (don't assume they'll bring anything though) 

Chicken treats - great for training and helping your chickens trust you.
