The Polish Chicken Breed
Polish chickens are a unique chicken breed with mysterious origins. Their name may have come from chickens that were introduced to England from the Netherlands which formed the foundation of the modern breed. Despite their puzzling past, there’s no mistaking a Polish chicken when you see one! These chooks have a distinct crest, which resembles a large bonnet of feathers and gives them a cute, almost cartoonish appearance. The Polish chicken breed is quiet and calm, but can become timid if not handled regularly. These birds are best suited to those who have a bit of experience with chicken keeping, as their crests may need maintenance if too prominent. While they don’t tend to go broody, they are not prolific layers, gifting you about 200 eggs per year. But what they lack in egg laying power they make up for in good looks and charm.
